Dr P K Das, Vice Chairman, Medical Oncology, Max Healthcare, joins CANSUPPORT to mark World Hospice and Palliative Care Day.

Some events are remembered for their speeches. Others are remembered for the way they make a room feel. The gathering for cancer warriors at Jawahar Bhawan, New Delhi, was the second kind. It was held to mark World Hospice and Palliative Care Day under the theme “Pain Management: An Essential Part of Palliative Care.” The evening was full of laughter, resilience and quiet strength.

A Chief Guest, and a Privilege

A Chief Guest: Dr PK Das

Dr P K Das, Vice Chairman of Medical Oncology at Max Healthcare, was invited as Chief Guest. For a doctor who has spent a career at the bedside of people facing cancer, the invitation was an honour, and the evening gave him far more than he brought to it.

Joy in the Face of Hardship

The evening’s most striking feature was the spirit of the survivors. Cancer is often discussed in the language of fear and struggle, but the people on that stage showed something else. Cancer warriors staged plays that were funny and full of life, and the hall filled with laughter and positivity.

Joy in the Face of Hardship

It was a reminder that healing is not only clinical. Morale, community and the freedom to laugh are part of the journey, and for many patients and families they matter as much as any treatment.

The Work of CANSUPPORT

CANSUPPORT

The event was organised by CANSUPPORT, one of India’s oldest and largest NGOs dedicated to supporting people affected by cancer. Its motto, “Caring for People with Cancer,” sits on the podium at the venue and sums up its approach: standing beside patients and families through the hardest stretches of their journey.

The programme was warm, well organised and clearly built on care. Dr Das expressed heartfelt appreciation for the entire CANSUPPORT family, whose dedication and compassion made the evening possible.

A Call to Action

Dr Das closed with a message that was as much a challenge as a thank-you. Support for cancer warriors must go beyond words:

  • Spread awareness about cancer, early detection and palliative care.
  • Extend a helping hand to patients and families, through time, resources or simple presence.
  • Challenge the stigma that still surrounds cancer and keeps too many people silent and isolated.
  • Ensure no one walks alone, so that no patient or family faces this journey without support.

Spread awareness

Every act of kindness, every contribution and every gesture of support can make a difference.

Turning Hope into Action

The evening at Jawahar Bhawan showed what a community can do when it chooses compassion. The survivors brought courage and humour, the organisers brought care, and everyone left with a clearer sense of what is possible when people stand together.

Stand with cancer warriors. Support CANSUPPORT. Make a difference. 🙏
